S-Glass fiberglass contains silica instead of boron, which enhances tensile strength. Pro surfer boards are typically laminated with a single layer of 4oz S-Glass on both sides. High-end boards for regular surfers are laminated with a layer of E-Glass on the bottom and a layer of S-Glass plus a layer of E-Glass on the deck.
